Best Outfit Apps, Sorted by What You Actually Need cover with an oak chair holding a folded knit, jeans and a belt, and white sneakers beside it
In this article

Short answer: For a free closet you'll actually keep, start with Whering. If you'd rather have outfits picked for you each morning, Alta Daily lists no in-app purchases. Indyx suits cost-per-wear trackers, Fits suits people who like to swipe outfits together, and TryAnyOutfit is the one to use when you want to see a new look on your own photo.

"Outfit app" covers very different jobs. Some apps want your whole closet photographed before they're useful. Others work with no setup at all.

So we sorted them by the job and by the setup each one asks of you. We think setup is where people give up on these apps, and most reviews skip it.

We make TryAnyOutfit, so we're one of the picks below. For the closet-only view, see our best wardrobe apps guide.

Best outfit apps by job: big free closet Whering, outfits picked for you Alta Daily, cost-per-wear Indyx, swipe outfits Fits, pay once Stylebook, no closet Combyne, look on yourself TryAnyOutfit

One job per app. Most do several, but each is strongest at one.

1. Whering: if you want a big free closet

Whering is free and says it has more than 9 million users. Adding clothes is quicker than in most closet apps: pick items from its database of over 100 million pieces, pull images from retailer websites, use your own photos with the background removed, or save as you browse with its Chrome extension.

From there, "Dress Me" shuffles your closet into outfits, and it tracks cost-per-wear. Paid extras are small: AI credits start at 10 for $2.99 and an Outfit Maker costs $4.99. Rated 4.67 from 12,028 ratings. If it isn't right for you, see apps like Whering.

2. Alta Daily: if you want outfits picked for you

Alta builds outfits from your closet around the weather and your schedule, and you can ask it to style one specific piece, like a new jacket. It also writes packing lists and puts outfits on an avatar that looks like you.

Getting clothes in is lighter work than you'd expect, because you can forward shopping receipts by email. No in-app purchases are listed on the US App Store. It's rated 4.89 from 18,018 ratings, the highest average of any app here, and there's a web app at altadaily.com. Our Alta Daily alternatives page covers the next options.

3. Indyx: if you track what you wear

Indyx is built around use. It tracks cost-per-wear, builds outfit boards by drag and drop, and turns collections into packing lists. You can add clothes from photos (it removes the background and tags them), forwarded receipts or pasted product links.

Membership is listed at $12.99 a month or $74.99 a year, and Indyx also sells sessions with human stylists. Rated 4.77 from 1,647 ratings. See apps like Indyx for close matches.

One sweater, two outfits. Closet apps are good at finding pairings like this in clothes you already own.

4. Fits: if you like to swipe outfits together

Fits' outfit maker lets you swipe through your clothes, piece by piece, until a combination works. When you add an item, it fills in the color and category for you, and often the brand. Planning happens on a calendar. There's also an AI stylist and a virtual try-on.

Fits Pro is listed from $9.99, and AI credits start at 5 for $1.99. Rated 4.59 from 5,742 ratings. Our TryAnyOutfit vs Fits page compares it with our app.

5. Stylebook: if you'd rather pay once

Stylebook costs $4.99 once, with no subscription. You lay out outfits as collages, shuffle your closet for new combinations, plan them on a calendar and track cost-per-wear.

Two things to know. It runs only on Apple devices, and the last update shipped on June 15, 2025. We'd still pick it if you hate subscriptions. Rated 4.68 from 8,871 ratings. On Android, see Stylebook alternatives.

6. Combyne: if you don't want to set up a closet

Combyne skips the closet step. You build outfits from items sold by more than 800 brands and shops, enter outfit challenges and browse what the community makes. It's free, with Premium listed at $2.99, and it's rated 4.76 from 87,787 ratings, the most of any app here.

It's better for ideas and shopping than for dressing from your own wardrobe. For more apps in that vein, see our outfit ideas apps.

7. TryAnyOutfit: if you want to see a look on yourself

Every app above shows outfits as flat items, collages or an avatar. We put the outfit on your real photo. Add a clear photo of yourself and any outfit image or screenshot, and you'll see the look on you before you buy it.

There's a planning side too. The AI stylist builds outfit ideas from pieces in your wardrobe, and the week planner puts looks on the days you'll wear them. Credits are shared between the iPhone and Android apps and the web studio.

Uploaded photos are auto-deleted after 72 hours unless you save them. There's no free trial, but it's cheap to start; see pricing. It previews a look. It won't measure fit or choose your size.

How to choose

Start with how much setup you'll tolerate. With no patience for cataloging, Combyne and TryAnyOutfit work from day one. With a little, Alta Daily's receipt forwarding gets a closet in fast, and Whering's database helps too. If you're willing to photograph everything, the tracking in Indyx pays that effort back.

Then think about when you'd open the app. Daily outfits point to Alta Daily or Whering. Planning points to Fits or our outfit planner apps list. If the question is whether a new piece will look good on you, a try-on on your photo answers it better than a collage. Our best fashion apps guide covers shopping and resale too. To have an app combine clothes you already own, see outfit generators that use your own clothes or AI wardrobe apps. For AI that designs looks you don't own yet, try AI outfit generators.
