Best AI Outfit Generators: From Text Prompts to Your Own Photo cover with a laptop of generated looks and a phone showing one outfit
In this article

Type "AI outfit generator" into a search bar and you get three different products sharing one name. One draws a look from a sentence. One shuffles clothes you already own into new combinations. The third takes a specific outfit and puts it on a photo of you. Which one you want depends on the question you're asking.

We make TryAnyOutfit, which is the third kind, so read our pick with that in mind. Six tools follow, sorted by what you feed them, with free limits and US prices from their own App Store pages and sites. We haven't scored anyone's image quality. And nobody here measures fit or picks a size, us included.

Best AI Outfit Generators: From Text Prompts to Your Own Photo cover with a laptop of generated looks and a phone showing one outfit

AI outfit generators start from words, from your closet or from an outfit image. What comes out is a picture, not a measurement.

The short version first.

Three kinds of AI outfit generator: from words, from your closet, and on your photo, with example apps for each

Words, closet or photo. Pick the input first and the shortlist gets short.

TryAnyOutfit: the outfit you saved, on your photo

Most of the time you already know which outfit you want. It's a screenshot from a store, or a look you saved off Instagram. You don't need a generator to invent clothes. You need to see those clothes on you. That's the job we built TryAnyOutfit for: add a clear photo of yourself plus the outfit image, and the studio renders that outfit on your photo. Face Swap covers the case where the reference is a full styled model look, and Custom Edit handles small changes such as rolled sleeves.

The studio also feeds a digital wardrobe and an outfit calendar. There's an AI stylist too: tell it where you're going and it suggests outfits using clothes from your wardrobe. It runs on iPhone and Android, and in the web studio. Every try-on, face swap or custom edit costs one credit. Packs are 5 for $2.99, 15 for $4.99 or 30 for $8.99, and plans are 20 try-ons for $7.99 a week or 50 for $14.99 a month. Setup is free. Rendering isn't. If you're not sure what your style is yet, the style quiz costs nothing.

The New Black: describe a look, then see it on you

The New Black is mostly a fashion studio for brands. Its AI Stylist is the part that fits the "text prompt" end of this search. You upload a standing photo once, write your style in a sentence, and choose an occasion from a list of 27, from a casual weekend to a wedding or a festival. The stylist writes a head-to-toe look into a description box. Edit any word, or swap in your own idea, then generate. According to the site, only the clothes change; your face and the background stay as they were.

Pricing runs on credits. One image costs one credit on Standard or three on Pro, and new accounts start with three free credits. Plans begin at $15 a month for 200 credits. It runs in the browser. The New Black's page is upfront that it isn't a shopping engine. Generated pieces aren't linked to any store, so finding something similar to buy is on you.

A text-led generator dresses the photo you upload for an occasion. Same person and pose, new outfit.

Alta Daily: outfits from your closet, worn by an avatar

Alta builds outfits from clothes you've added. You can forward email receipts, pick items from its database, or photograph a piece and let Alta look for the original product image. It plans around weather and your schedule, takes prompts like "date night in Paris", and will build looks around one jacket if you ask. Its virtual try-on shows the outfit on an avatar that looks like you. Packing lists and closet-gap shopping suggestions sit on top.

On the US App Store, Alta had about 4.9 stars from roughly 16,200 ratings and listed no in-app purchases. It's on Google Play too, and there's a web app at altadaily.com. The catch with any closet-first tool is effort. The outfits are only as good as the closet you took the time to catalog.

Acloset: a closet with a chat stylist

Acloset digitizes clothes from a photo or an online search and cleans messy snapshots into store-style images. Then you can ask its AI stylist what to wear today, or whether two pieces match. Daily suggestions follow the weather and your schedule. There's an outfit calendar and a personal color and silhouette analysis as well.

Everything is free up to 100 items. Past that, US subscriptions on the App Store were Basic at $3.99 a month or $27.99 a year, Premium at $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year, and Expert at $24.99 a month or $147.99 a year. About 4.5 stars from roughly 5,400 iPhone ratings. Google Play shows 5M+ downloads and marks the app as containing ads.

GetWardrobe: the widest free tier here

GetWardrobe has been on the App Store since 2013. It runs on Apple devices and Android, with a web version as well. Its free tier is unusually generous. You get up to 100 items, an AI Studio that builds outfits one at a time with no cap, and a Starter outfit generator that returns 10 outfits per run, which you can filter by occasion or weather. Runs are unlimited. A drag-and-drop editor for collage boards is free too.

Paid credits buy the Standard and Pro generators (20 to 30 outfits per run) and a virtual try-on. Packs start at 20 credits for $4.99. Premium removes the item cap and was listed at $4.99 or $9.99 a month, or $34.99 or $49.99 a year. Ratings trail the others: 4.3 from 787 on iPhone.

OpenWardrobe: closet stylist, resale included

When we pulled the US results for "best AI outfit generator", the top hit was a Reddit thread about OpenWardrobe's AI-made outfits. The app plans outfits from your clothes in grids or collages and tracks cost per wear. LolaAI is its stylist, trained on your wardrobe. It also connects to Poshmark for resale and books alterations in the US.

The paid plan, Circle, was $12.99 a month, $79 a year or $199 lifetime on the US App Store. Ratings are thin, though: 4.0 from 171 on iPhone and 3.6 on Google Play.

What about ChatGPT or Gemini?

General chatbots with image generation will draw an outfit from a prompt, and both can edit a photo you upload. For one quick idea, that may be all you need. Even The New Black's FAQ admits a general generator is cheaper per image. What you give up is the fashion layer: no saved closet, no occasion presets, no outfit calendar. Limits depend on your plan. If you only want to replace the clothes in an existing photo, Clothes Swap AI covers the web tools built for exactly that.

Text prompt or your own photo?

Use words when you don't know what you want yet. "Fall wedding, outdoors, no black" gets you ideas fast, and you can throw away ten of them without guilt. Use your closet when the wardrobe is full and nothing feels right. Use your own photo plus a real outfit image when you're about to buy one specific thing.

Closet-based AI outfit generator flat lay: three outfits built from the same white shirt, grey cardigan, chinos, jeans, skirt and loafers

Closet-based generators remix pieces you own. One shirt and one cardigan, three outfits.

Whatever you pick, a generated image is a style preview. It shows how a color sits against your skin and whether the pieces work together. Size and stretch still come from the retailer's size chart and return policy. Our photo guide covers which source photos give cleaner results.

Which one to open first

For occasion ideas generated on your own photo, try The New Black's AI Stylist. Three free credits cover a first test.

If you'll photograph your closet and want daily outfits from it, pick by priority. Alta has the avatar try-on, GetWardrobe has the biggest free tier, and Acloset leans on its chat stylist.

If you've already found the outfit and want to see it on you before checkout, that's TryAnyOutfit. More apps in that lane are in the best virtual try-on apps and best AI clothes changers, and our comparison pages go one competitor at a time.
