Short answer: Indyx is the closest app like Whering, a free closet with no item limit, plus real stylists when you want one. If you'd like an AI stylist to plan outfits for you, Alta Daily is free. For weather-based picks try Acloset or GetWardrobe; Stylebook is the pay-once closet for iPhone.
Whering is hard to beat on price. Its closet is free, its database holds more than 100 million items, and Dress Me shuffles what you own into outfits. So the useful question isn't which app is better. It's what you want that Whering doesn't give you.
So that's how we've sorted this list. One disclosure: we make TryAnyOutfit, the last app here. It's a try-on app with a wardrobe, not a social closet, and we'd only point you to it for that.

A real rail and a digital one. Every app below starts by turning the first into the second.
| App | Pick it over Whering if you want | Free side | Paid (US App Store, October 2026) | Platforms |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Indyx | Human stylists and receipt imports | Unlimited items and outfits | Insider $12.99/month or $74.99/year | iPhone, Android |
| Alta Daily | An AI stylist that plans for you | Free to use | No in-app purchases listed | iPhone, Android, web |
| Acloset | Daily picks from weather and schedule | All features up to 100 items | From $3.99/month or $27.99/year | iPhone, Android |
| GetWardrobe | The same closet on Mac and the web | Up to 100 items, free AI outfit runs | Premium from $4.99/month or $34.99/year | iPhone, iPad, Mac, web, Android |
| Stylebook | To pay once | None | $4.99 once | iPhone, iPad |
| Fits | An AI stylist with try-on | Free to start | Fits Pro $9.99 to $59.99; AI credits from 5 for $1.99 | iPhone, Android |
| TryAnyOutfit | To see an outfit on your own photo | Setup and quizzes | Packs from 5 try-ons for $2.99 | iPhone, Android, web |

Start from what you'd miss, or what you wish Whering did.
What Whering does well
Whering says more than 10 million people get dressed with it, and the free side explains why. You can add clothes from its database, grab images from retailer sites or use the Chrome extension. Your own photos get the background removed. Friends can see your closet and style you. Its stats go past cost per wear to wear rate, the colors you lean on, and how long pieces last. Packing lists are built in.
The paid side is small: credit packs from 10 for $2.99 to 100 for $12.99, a $4.99 Outfit Maker, and optional supporter tiers. It holds 4.7 stars from about 11,900 US App Store ratings and 4.4 on Google Play with 5M+ downloads. Money alone isn't much of a reason to switch.
Indyx: the closest match
Indyx keeps the whole closet free. Items and outfits are unlimited, background removal included, and so are packing lists. Schedule outfits on a calendar and it tracks cost per wear for you. Save your outfit selfies to the same calendar to see how your style changes.
Two things set it apart from Whering. First, clothes can come in by forwarded shopping receipts or pasted product links, which beats photographing a closet that mostly arrived in boxes. And you can pay for 1:1 help from a human stylist who works with what you own. Insider costs $12.99 a month or $74.99 a year on the US App Store. Ratings: 4.8 from about 1,600 on iPhone, 4.5 on Google Play.
We've compared the two in depth in Indyx vs Whering.
Alta Daily: let an AI stylist plan it
Whering hands you a shuffle. Alta hands you a stylist. It picks a daily outfit from your closet using the weather and your schedule, and you can ask for a look around one jacket or one event. Forward email receipts to fill the closet, or snap a photo and it tries to find the original product image. Trips get a packing list and a travel lookbook, even across several cities. You see outfits on an avatar built to look like you.
According to Alta's site it's free to use, and the US App Store lists no in-app purchases. It has 4.9 stars from about 16,800 App Store ratings and 500K+ installs on Google Play. You can also use it in a browser.

Whatever you switch to, the first evening goes to photos. Indyx and Alta can import receipts and cut that down.
Acloset: picks based on the weather
Each morning, Acloset suggests what to wear from the forecast and your schedule, and keeps an outfit calendar for planning ahead. Like Whering it's social: the listing describes a community of 4 million users sharing tips and planning outfits with friends. All features are free up to 100 items. Bigger closets need Basic ($3.99 a month or $27.99 a year), Premium ($9.99 or $59.99) or Expert ($24.99 or $147.99). It's rated 4.4 on both stores.
GetWardrobe: your closet on every screen
Want your closet on a laptop? GetWardrobe syncs between Apple devices and the web, and there's an Android app too. The free closet holds up to 100 items with no time limit. Its AI outfit generator deals 10 outfits per run from your clothes, filtered by things like the weather. Free runs are unlimited. Premium starts at $4.99 a month or $34.99 a year. It has 4.3 stars from about 790 App Store ratings, so it's a smaller crowd than Whering's.
Stylebook: pay once, no add-ons
For $4.99, Stylebook is yours, and the US listing shows no in-app purchases. There's no item limit. You lay outfits out on a free-form canvas, plan them on a calendar, and let the app suggest one when you're out of ideas. It's iPhone and iPad only. The last App Store update was June 15, 2025, which is worth knowing before you move a whole wardrobe in.
Fits: an AI stylist with try-on
As you add clothes, Fits detects the item type and color. An AI stylist suggests outfits from what you already have, the calendar works for planning ahead or looking back, and the listing includes a virtual try-on. Mood boards and collages are there for the Pinterest side of you. Fits Pro costs $9.99, $29.99 or $59.99 on the US App Store, with AI credits from 5 for $1.99. Ratings are 4.6 from about 5,600 on iPhone and 4.7 on Google Play. If try-on is what draws you, see TryAnyOutfit vs Fits.
TryAnyOutfit: see it on your own photo
We built TryAnyOutfit for the step closet apps tend to skip: seeing an outfit on you before you buy or wear it. Upload a clear photo of yourself and any outfit image, such as a store screenshot, and you get a preview of you wearing it. The app also keeps a digital wardrobe with an outfit calendar. Tell its AI stylist where you're going and it suggests outfits from your clothes.
Use it on your phone or in the web studio. Each try-on uses one credit: packs are 5 for $2.99, 15 for $4.99 or 30 for $8.99, and plans are 20 try-ons for $7.99 a week or 50 for $14.99 a month. The Style quiz and Wardrobe quiz cost nothing.

Ask for an outfit for a place, then put it on your photo.
A preview shows the look. It doesn't measure fit or choose a size, so check the retailer's size chart.
Which app like Whering should you try?
Pick Indyx if you want Whering's free closet with a human stylist on call. Alta Daily suits you if you'd rather have an AI decide each morning, and it's free too. For a closet that follows you to a laptop, GetWardrobe is the one. Stylebook is for people who'd pay $4.99 once and never think about pricing again.
Selfie color analysis isn't on this list. Style DNA does it, and we cover it in Dressly alternatives.
