Dressly Alternatives: Outfit Apps With and Without a Subscription

Style DNA is the closest Dressly alternative, with selfie color analysis and body-type advice, but it is also a subscription app. Without a subscription, Alta Daily is free with an AI stylist and avatar try-on, Whering's closet is free, Stylebook costs $4.99 once, and TryAnyOutfit sells try-ons in credit packs.

Dressly Alternatives: Outfit Apps With and Without a Subscription cover with a phone showing outfit cards and color dots next to fabric swatches and a rust sweater
In this article

Short answer: Style DNA is the closest Dressly alternative, with the same selfie color analysis and body-type advice, but it's a subscription app too. If the subscription is what you're escaping, Alta Daily is free and has an AI stylist with avatar try-on, Stylebook costs $4.99 once, and TryAnyOutfit sells try-ons in small credit packs.

Dressly takes a selfie, works out your colors and body shape, then suggests outfits and things to buy. The download is free. The catch sits in its App Store listing: the full app needs a premium subscription that renews every week, month or year.

So why are you leaving? We think that question matters more than any ranking. If it's the bill, look at the apps marked "No" in the table below. If it's the app itself, Style DNA is the closest match, while Acloset and Indyx come at it from your closet instead.

One disclosure. We make TryAnyOutfit, the last app here. It does try-on on your own photo, not color analysis, and we've placed it that way.

Outfit cards on the phone, a palette on the table. That pairing is what Dressly sells.

Dressly alternatives sorted by how you pay: Dressly, Style DNA, Acloset and Indyx need a subscription for the full app; Alta Daily, Whering, Stylebook and TryAnyOutfit don't

Same eight apps, split by whether you can use them without a renewing plan.

What Dressly does, and what it costs

Start with the selfie. Dressly builds a style profile from it: your color type, your body shape and the clothes you like. From there it scores your outfit photos and fills lookbooks with looks for work or date night. It also recommends pieces from stores. Its help center describes an AI Stylist you can chat with for outfit ideas based on that profile, and its website promotes a virtual try-on.

On the US App Store, premium runs $7.99 or $11.99 a week, $24.99 or $34.99 a month, and $55.99 or $79.99 a year. There's also a separate $9.99 color scanner item. Dressly holds 4.4 stars from about 32,000 US ratings and 4.4 on Google Play with 100K+ downloads, so plenty of people like it. Paying weekly for a style profile is another matter.

Style DNA: the nearest like-for-like

If color analysis is why you downloaded Dressly, start here. Style DNA also works from a selfie. It sorts you into one of 12 seasonal color types, such as Soft Autumn, and adds a body type guide and Kibbe-inspired style types. An AI stylist chatbot answers questions like what goes with green cargo pants. You get five outfit ideas a day from clothes you've photographed, and its shop pulls from 26,000 brands across 231 retailers, filtered to your profile. Point the camera at something in a store and it checks whether the piece suits you. It's built for women and men.

Plans on the US listing run from $7.99 a month to $39.99 a year, with three- and six-month options in between. The listing also shows a Palette and Body type guide at $12.99 and an Advanced Color Palette at $9.99. Ratings split: 4.3 from about 7,500 on the App Store, 3.4 on Google Play with 1M+ downloads.

Acloset and Indyx: free closets with paid tiers

Acloset starts from your clothes, not your face. Snap what you own and it suggests a daily outfit based on the weather and your schedule. There's an outfit calendar and a community feed. Every feature is free for up to 100 items. After that you pick a plan: Basic at $3.99 a month or $27.99 a year, Premium at $9.99 or $59.99, or Expert at $24.99 or $147.99. It holds 4.4 stars on both stores, with 5M+ downloads on Google Play.

Indyx keeps the closet itself free, with unlimited items and a calendar that tracks cost per wear. Insider ($12.99 a month or $74.99 a year) adds the analytics, and you can book real stylists to restyle what you own. Our Indyx vs Whering comparison covers it in detail.

Alta Daily: free AI stylist with avatar try-on

Alta is the free pick that feels most like Dressly's stylist side. It suggests a daily outfit from your closet based on the weather and your plans. Give it a prompt like "date night in Paris" and it builds looks for that. Clothes go in by forwarded email receipts, its item database or a photo. It tracks cost per wear, writes packing lists for multi-city trips and flags gaps in your closet. Try-on happens on an avatar that looks like you, not on your actual photo. You can use it in a browser at altadaily.com as well.

Alta's site says it's free to use, and the US App Store lists no in-app purchases. It has 4.9 stars from about 16,800 App Store ratings and 500K+ downloads on Google Play. Its listing doesn't mention color analysis, so that part of Dressly won't carry over.

Whering: free closet, pay per extra

Whering says more than 10 million people use it. You can add clothes from a database of over 100 million items, shuffle them with the Clueless-inspired Dress Me, and browse friends' closets. The closet costs nothing. Extras come as credit packs (10 for $2.99 up to 100 for $12.99) or the $4.99 Outfit Maker, plus optional supporter tiers. There's no selfie color analysis, but you do get a breakdown of the colors you already wear.

Stylebook: pay once on iPhone

Stylebook is $4.99 with no in-app purchases on the US listing. There's no item limit. Plan looks on the outfit calendar, or let the generator pick one when you're stuck. It's iPhone and iPad only, and its last App Store update was June 15, 2025, so weigh that before you buy.

TryAnyOutfit: try-on without a plan

Our app covers the try-on part of Dressly: it puts a specific outfit on a photo of you. Upload a clear photo of yourself and any outfit image, even a store screenshot, and you get a preview of you wearing it. Beyond try-on, you get a digital wardrobe with an outfit calendar and an AI stylist. Use it on your phone or in the web studio.

Each try-on uses one credit. Packs are 5 for $2.99, 15 for $4.99 or 30 for $8.99, so you never have to subscribe. If you try on a lot, plans are 20 try-ons for $7.99 a week or 50 for $14.99 a month. The Style quiz and Wardrobe quiz are free. We don't do color analysis.

Before you switch: cancel Dressly first

Deleting the app isn't enough. Google Play's help page says uninstalling won't cancel a subscription. Dressly's App Store listing says auto-renewal can be turned off in your App Store settings, and its website says you can cancel in the app or by emailing support. On Android, cancel from Google Play's subscriptions page. Apple and Google both have step-by-step help pages, linked below.

Which Dressly alternative should you pick?

For color analysis and body-type advice, Style DNA is the closest. You'll still be subscribing.

For an AI stylist without paying, try Alta Daily and accept an avatar instead of your photo. For a plain closet with no renewals, Whering is free on both phones and Stylebook is a one-off $4.99 on iPhone.
