Free AI Stylist Options and What You Give Up

Alta Daily is the most complete free AI stylist: it says it's free to use and lists no in-app purchases, though its try-on uses an avatar. Acloset is free up to 100 items with ads, Fits keeps the closet free but sells AI credits, and ChatGPT's free plan gives advice without knowing your closet.

In this article

In our view, Alta Daily is the best free AI stylist right now. It says it's free to use, and its App Store listing shows no in-app purchases at all. Acloset's stylist chat is free too, up to 100 closet items and with ads. Fits keeps the closet free and sells AI credits. ChatGPT will style you for free. It just doesn't know what's in your wardrobe.

Free always costs something. Here it's usually setup time, an item cap, or a try-on that dresses an avatar instead of you. We make TryAnyOutfit, and we're upfront that ours isn't free: try-ons use credits. That's why it sits at the end.

A free AI stylist works from clothes you've already logged. The catch is in how much it lets you log and see.

TL;DR

  • Fully free: Alta Daily. You give up nothing in money, but its try-on uses an avatar, and you have to build the closet first.
  • Free with limits: Acloset (100 items, ads, paid "beans" for extra AI chat) and Fits (free closet, AI credits from $1.99 for 5).
  • Free chatbots give advice without seeing your closet.
  • Paid only: Cladwell's stylist needs a subscription, and so do Style DNA's and Aesty's full features.

What each free option costs you, if not money.

Alta Daily: free, with no paid tier listed

Alta calls itself "your personal AI stylist" and its website says "Alta is free to use." On the US App Store the listing has no in-app purchases section, which is rare in this category.

You build a closet by forwarding email receipts, picking items from Alta's database, or taking a photo and letting Alta find the original. Then come the daily outfits, planned around the weather and your schedule. Describe an event, say a work conference in Vegas, and Alta styles for it. It'll even build looks around one jacket you want to wear. Packing lists and travel lookbooks are in there too, and there's a web app at altadaily.com.

What you give up: Alta's try-on generates the outfit "on an avatar that looks like you," not on a photo of you. And the stylist only knows the closet you've entered. Expect an evening of setup. Still, if you want to spend nothing, start here. For other options, see Alta Daily alternatives.

Acloset: free stylist chat, up to 100 items

Acloset's support page says the app is "free for up to 100 items, with access to all features in the app." That includes its AI stylist chat and weather-aware daily suggestions. The free version shows ads.

What you give up comes in three parts:

  • A subscription once you pass 100 items. Basic is $3.99 a month or $27.99 a year, and Premium is $9.99 a month.
  • Chat volume. Acloset's terms say beans (from 100 for $1.99) pay for extra AI chat messages and for saving images from AI tools.
  • Your own photo. Acloset's Try On builds an AI avatar from your full-body photo. Its Basic tier has free uses that refill every day.

If you own fewer than 100 pieces you'd actually style, this may be the most complete free option. Our Acloset alternatives list covers what to try if the cap bites.

Fits: free closet, paid AI

Fits says the app is free to use, "including unlimited items and background removal." Its AI stylist suggests outfits from your wardrobe and learns from what you wear.

The site lists "Unlimited AI outfit suggestions" as a Fits Pro benefit, which tells you the free version caps them. AI category and colour detection is also Pro. The App Store shows Fits Pro at $9.99, $29.99 and $59.99, without naming the billing periods, plus AI credit packs: 5 for $1.99, 20 for $4.99, 100 for $19.99.

What you give up on the free plan: unlimited AI suggestions and the auto-tagging. You still get a full closet and the swipe-based outfit maker. For a try-on side-by-side, see TryAnyOutfit vs Fits.

ChatGPT and other chatbots: free advice, no closet

You can describe an outfit to a free chatbot and ask what goes with it. ChatGPT's free plan includes unlimited text chats, per its pricing page. Uploads are limited on that plan, and so is memory.

That's the trade. A chatbot hasn't seen your wardrobe unless you describe it or upload photos, and on the free plan those uploads run out. It also won't remember your closet the way a wardrobe app does. For a quick "does olive go with navy?", it's fine.

"AI stylist" apps that aren't free

Some of the apps that rank for this search charge for the stylist itself:

  • Cladwell: building your closet is free. Its listing says the stylist and daily outfits need a Cladwell subscription, with a free trial for eligible new users.
  • Style DNA: the listing describes a subscription that gives access to all features, with plans from $7.99 a month.
  • Aesty: Pro starts at $6.99 a week on the US App Store. See Aesty alternatives.

None of that makes them bad picks. They just aren't free, and a search for "ai stylist free" deserves to know that up front.

Two outfits laid out on a bed: olive overshirt with white tee, dark jeans and brown loafers, and a grey blazer with black top, charcoal trousers and white sneakers

Most free stylists end here: two outfit ideas laid out, and you still have to picture them on yourself.

Where TryAnyOutfit fits

TryAnyOutfit isn't a free AI stylist, and we'd rather say so here than in the small print. Tell its AI stylist where you're going and it suggests outfits from clothes you've saved. Then comes the part we built it for: any look, whether it's a stylist suggestion, a screenshot or a product photo, goes onto your real photo, not an avatar.

That step uses credits. The app is free to download, but every try-on uses one credit, and so do face swaps and custom edits. There's no free trial. It's cheap to start with a credit pack or a plan, both on the pricing page.

TryAnyOutfit AI Stylist chat on iPhone titled Chat with your closet, suggesting outfits from saved clothes

TryAnyOutfit's AI stylist works from your saved clothes. Seeing the look on your photo uses a credit.

The app runs on iPhone and Android, and there's a web studio, with one set of credits across all three. Uploaded photos are auto-deleted after 72 hours unless you save them. It previews a look. It doesn't measure fit or choose a size.
