"Outfit maker" covers at least three kinds of app. A collage board where you drag a blazer next to a pair of loafers and share the result. A closet app that builds looks from clothes you already own. And an AI try-on that shows the finished outfit on a photo of you. Same search, very different evenings.

We make TryAnyOutfit, the try-on kind, so take our last section with that in mind. Most people should start with one of the first two. Seven apps follow, grouped by type, with US prices from their App Store listings. We haven't graded anyone's design tools or renders. None of them can tell you your size.

## Combyne: collage from shop items

Combyne's "combyner" is a virtual dressing room for items you don't own yet. You search pieces from over 800 brands and shops, across more than 35 categories, and combine them into an outfit. Then you share it and get feedback. Daily outfit challenges and a follower feed make it feel as much like a community as a tool, and items link out to partner shops.

It has by far the biggest following in this list: about 4.8 stars from roughly 87,700 iPhone ratings, and 10M+ downloads on Google Play, where the listing is marked as containing ads. Premium was listed at $2.99 and $19.99 on the US App Store.

## ShopLook: a free-form canvas

ShopLook is a blank canvas with background removal and other editing tools. People use it for outfits and moodboards, and plenty else. It calls itself the largest community of Polyvore users and describes a community library of over 70 million images. You can build looks from products at any store and make items in a design shoppable.

The US App Store listed ShopLook Premium at $4.99 and $6.99, with annual options at $34.99 and $39.99. About 4.8 stars from roughly 7,200 ratings. The most recent update on the listing was June 24, 2026, so it's maintained, if not weekly.

## Stylebook: pay once, closet and canvas

Stylebook is the old hand. Its listing says 15+ years. It costs $4.99 once, runs on iPhone and iPad, and has no subscription on the US listing. You import clothes by clipping from store sites or dragging in photos. There's an AI text-to-image import as well, which needs Apple Intelligence. Outfits get laid out on a free-form canvas, and the app can suggest outfits when you're stuck. It also plans outfits on a calendar and builds packing lists.

The listing quotes the New York Times: "I find Stylebook to be the most intuitive." It has about 4.7 stars from roughly 8,800 ratings. One flag: the last update on the listing was June 15, 2025, more than a year ago.

## Whering: a big free closet

Whering bills itself as the world's largest free social styling and closet app, with 9M+ users. You can add items from a database of over 100 million pieces, from retailer sites, from your own photos (it removes the background) or through a Chrome extension. "Dress Me" shuffles your closet into outfits, Clueless-style.

For more help it points you to a Style Pass and an Outfit Maker. The IAP list shows Outfit Maker at $4.99 and credit packs from 10 for $2.99 up to 100 for $12.99. About 4.7 stars from roughly 11,900 iPhone ratings, and 5M+ downloads on Google Play.

## Fits: closet plus AI suggestions

Fits sits between the closet and AI camps. AI tags each item as you digitize your closet. You then swipe through items to put a look together, make mood boards and collages, and plan days in a calendar. An AI stylist suggests outfits from what you own, and the listing also mentions a virtual try-on.

US IAP shows Fits Pro at $9.99, $29.99 and $59.99, plus AI credits from 5 for $1.99 up to 500 for $79.99. About 4.6 stars from roughly 5,600 ratings. If try-on is your deciding feature, we compare the two directly in [TryAnyOutfit vs Fits](/compare/tryanyoutfit-vs-fits).

## Indyx: closet plus human stylists

Indyx does the closet basics well: background removal, an "Enhance" step that turns hanger shots into clean flat-lay images, cost-per-wear charts and a calendar. Outfits are built on drag-and-drop boards. What sets it apart is people. Friends or other Indyx users can style your closet, and you can book a Lookbook of ten outfits styled by an expert from your own clothes.

Membership was $12.99 a month or $74.99 a year on the US App Store. About 4.8 stars from roughly 1,600 ratings.

## TryAnyOutfit: see the outfit on you

A collage tells you whether pieces go together. It can't tell you whether they go with you. That's the gap a try-on fills. With TryAnyOutfit you add a clear photo of yourself and an outfit image, such as a store screenshot or a product photo. The studio renders that outfit on your photo. Discover is a feed of outfit ideas, kids' and pet looks included, and anything there can be tried on. Saved looks can go into a digital wardrobe and onto an outfit calendar, and an AI stylist suggests looks from your wardrobe for wherever you're going.

It works on iPhone and Android, and in the [web studio](/tryon). Every try-on, face swap or custom edit costs one credit. Packs are 5 for $2.99, 15 for $4.99 or 30 for $8.99, and plans are 20 try-ons for $7.99 a week or 50 for $14.99 a month. Setup and the [wardrobe quiz](/quiz2) are free; rendering isn't.

*A collage shows the pieces together. A try-on preview shows the look on a person.*

We preview a look. We don't measure fit. The retailer's size chart and return policy still decide the order. For step-by-step help with screenshots, see [how to try on clothes from a store screenshot](/blog/try-on-clothes-from-store-screenshot).

## Collage, closet or try-on?

If you mostly shop online and like playing stylist, start with a collage app. Combyne if you want a crowd and challenges, ShopLook if you want a freer canvas.

If the problem is a full closet and the same five outfits on repeat, go closet-first. Whering and Indyx both lead with a free closet. Stylebook suits someone who'd rather pay once. Fits suits someone who wants AI suggestions in the mix.

If you've already made the outfit, as a collage or a screenshot, and want to see it on yourself before you pay, that's where try-on helps.
