# Indyx vs Whering: Which Wardrobe App Fits How You Dress?

Pick Indyx if you want a private, analytics-heavy closet and the option to book a human stylist (Lookbooks from $60). Pick Whering if you want a social closet with a 100-million-item database and one-off credit packs instead of a subscription. Both let you catalog your clothes free on iPhone and Android.

Indyx and Whering both put your closet on your phone for free, so the choice comes down to what you want help with once it's there. Indyx leans private and analytical, and it can hand your wardrobe to a paid human stylist. Whering is social: you can browse other people's closets, shuffle your own, and pay small amounts for extras.

Neither app is ours. We make TryAnyOutfit, a try-on app, and there's a short section near the end for anyone who also wants to see the clothes on their own photo. Our view up front: if a stylist matters to you, it's Indyx. If friends and a big item database matter more, Whering.

## Where Indyx wins

Getting clothes in is less work. Indyx accepts messy hanger shots and rushed flat lays and turns them into clean images. AI fills in the tags for you. You can also forward shopping receipts or paste a product link from a retailer. If most of your closet came from online orders, that receipt trick saves an evening of photos.

Then there's the human help. Indyx sells styling from real stylists who work from what you already own. The Lookbook starts at $150 for ten outfits, with up to six new pieces suggested if you ask. The Lookbook Mini starts at $60 for three outfits from your existing closet. Whering doesn't list anything like it.

Privacy is the default. Your Indyx closet stays private until you open it to friends or other users. Free accounts get unlimited items and outfits. You can log wears on a calendar and sort the closet by cost per wear. Insider adds the analytics dashboard and nicer images. It also brings Virtual Selfies, which Indyx describes as previewing a look on a real photo of you. There's also a free 8-week Style Workshop and a style quiz.

The catch: the app is English-only, and the deeper charts sit behind Insider.

## Where Whering wins

Whering's database is the headline. Search more than 100 million items, grab images straight from retailer sites, or use the Chrome extension while you shop. For pieces that are still sold online, that's quicker than photographing them.

It's also the more social of the two. You can see friends' closets, add items from another closet to yours, style outfits for friends and save their looks to moodboards. Dress Me is the Clueless-style shuffle of your own clothes, and the outfit planner handles events. Its stats go further than most: beyond cost per wear, it logs new versus pre-loved buys and how long pieces last.

On cost, Whering's US listing is built around one-off buys: credit packs and the $4.99 Outfit Maker, plus optional supporter tiers. Its terms, updated September 17, 2026, also describe W-Chat, an AI styling assistant, and an optional virtual try-on from a photo of you. The app is in English plus five other languages.

What you give up is quiet. If you want a planner nobody else ever sees, Whering's social layer is extra noise you'll be switching off.

*Seven days of outfits from one small capsule. Both apps plan the week and track what you actually wear.*

## Indyx vs Whering on price

Start free on either. Most people never need to pay for the closet itself.

With Indyx, money goes to Insider ($12.99 a month or $74.99 a year on the US App Store) or to a stylist. With Whering, you pay per extra: credit packs from 10 for $2.99 up to 100 for $12.99, or the Outfit Maker at $4.99. Someone who wants deep charts every week will feel Indyx's subscription. Someone who wants an occasional AI extra will probably spend less on Whering's packs. Prices change, so check the store before you buy.

## If you also want to see clothes on you

Both apps start from clothes you've already logged. Indyx's Virtual Selfies (an Insider feature) and the try-on described in Whering's terms point the same way, from inside a closet app.

TryAnyOutfit starts at the other end. Upload a clear photo of yourself plus any outfit image, even a store screenshot, and get a preview of you wearing it. It also has a digital wardrobe with an outfit calendar, an AI stylist and a Discover feed. It runs on iPhone and Android and in the [web studio](/tryon). Each try-on uses one credit: packs are 5 for $2.99, 15 for $4.99 or 30 for $8.99, and plans are 20 try-ons for $7.99 a week or 50 for $14.99 a month.

A preview shows the look. It doesn't measure fit or choose a size, so keep the retailer's size chart open.

*Plan the outfit in your closet app, then check it on a photo of you.*

## Which should you pick?

Choose Indyx if you'd pay a person to restyle your closet. It's also the better pick when your receipts can do the cataloguing, or when you want a closet nobody sees.

Whering suits you if friends' closets inspire you. It helps if most of your clothes are already in its database. And if you'd rather buy a credit pack than subscribe, that's Whering too.
