# Are Wardrobe Apps Free? Indyx, Whering and Acloset Pricing Explained

Indyx is free with unlimited items and outfits; its optional Insider membership is $12.99 a month or $74.99 a year. Whering says it's completely free to use but lists optional credit packs. Acloset gives every feature free for up to 100 items, then needs a subscription from $3.99 a month.

Yes, Indyx is free. Its digital wardrobe costs nothing, with unlimited items and outfits, and the paid Insider membership adds extras like an analytics dashboard and virtual selfies. Whering says it's completely free to use. Acloset is free up to 100 items, and past that you need a subscription.

Which "free" is the real one? We make TryAnyOutfit, a try-on app that also keeps a wardrobe, so we have a side in this. All three closet apps below are honest about what they charge. We think they just mean different things by "free," and you'll want to know which before you photograph 300 pieces of clothing.

## TL;DR

- Indyx: free closet with no item cap. Insider is $12.99 a month or $74.99 a year on the App Store, and human styling starts at $60.
- Whering: free to use, per its own FAQ. The App Store still lists optional credit packs and an Outfit Maker purchase.
- Acloset: every feature is free for up to 100 items. A bigger closet needs Basic ($3.99 a month) or a higher tier.

*The short version: where each app's free tier stops.*

## Is Indyx free?

Yes. Indyx's homepage says its digital wardrobe "is always free," and the App Store lists the app as free. In our view it's the most generous free tier of the three. You get unlimited items with background removal and unlimited outfits. Packing lists and capsules are included too. So is a calendar that sorts by wear and cost-per-wear, and you can share your closet with friends. "Unlimited" comes with one footnote on the site: it's subject to Indyx's terms of service.

Insider, the paid membership, is $12.99 a month or $74.99 a year in the US App Store. What it adds, per Indyx's comparison table:

- styling from friends and other Indyx users
- an analytics dashboard
- unlimited enhanced flatlays and Super HD images
- inspiration boards and virtual selfies
- priority access to events.

We'd call all of that optional. Nothing on the list stops a free user from logging a full closet.

The other paid part is human. Indyx sells 1:1 styling with real stylists: a Lookbook Mini for $60 and a full Lookbook from $150. The free tier gives you access to book those services. It doesn't include them.

Indyx is on iPhone and Android. If you're choosing between it and Whering, our [Indyx vs Whering comparison](/blog/indyx-vs-whering) goes feature by feature, and [apps like Indyx](/blog/apps-like-indyx) covers the rest of the field.

## Is Whering free?

Whering's FAQ answers this one directly: "Whering is completely free to use." Another FAQ entry says you can use the app as normal without paying, and that people who contribute get perks such as testing new features.

The App Store listing is busier than that answer suggests. It shows credit packs (10 for $2.99, 50 for $7.99, 100 for $12.99), an Outfit Maker purchase at $4.99, and a ladder of supporter tiers from $0.99 to $49.99. The description also mentions getting a Style Pass to try the Outfit Maker. Whering's FAQ says its supporter club is closed to new members. Neither the FAQ nor the listing told us what a credit buys, so we won't guess.

What we can say: the closet itself, the part most people search for, is free. Whering's terms also describe an AI chat assistant and virtual try-on features. If one of those is what you're after, check inside the app whether it asks for credits before you start.

Whering runs on iPhone and Android. For alternatives, see [apps like Whering](/blog/apps-like-whering) or [Acloset vs Whering](/blog/acloset-vs-whering).

## Is Acloset free?

Up to a point. Acloset's support page puts it plainly: the app is "free for up to 100 items, with access to all features," and "a monthly subscription is required if you exceed 100 items." The free version also shows ads.

A hundred items sounds like a lot. Then you count the belts and the five white T-shirts. Paid plans on the US App Store:

- Basic: $3.99 a month or $27.99 a year
- Premium: $9.99 a month or $59.99 a year
- Expert: $24.99 a month or $147.99 a year

The listing doesn't spell out how many items each tier holds, so check the plan screen in the app before you pick one.

Acloset also sells "beans," from 100 for $1.99 up to 1,200 for $19.99. Its terms say beans pay for extra AI chat messages and for saving images from AI tools such as Beautify and Smart Detector, and bean purchases aren't refundable. An August update added a Try On Basic tier with free uses that refill every day. That try-on builds an AI avatar from your full-body photo.

*Before you pick an app, count what you'd actually upload. It decides whether Acloset's free tier is enough.*

## Which free tier fits you?

If you own a lot of clothes and want to pay nothing, we'd start with Indyx. No item cap, and the paid tier is extras you can ignore.

If you want a free closet with a social side, Whering fits. Just know that some purchases exist inside an app its own FAQ calls completely free.

If your wardrobe is small, or you only want to log the pieces you wear most, Acloset's 100-item free tier gives you every feature. Past 100, Basic at $3.99 a month is the cheapest way to lift the cap.

None of the three shows a new piece on your own photo before you buy it. That's a different job.

## Where TryAnyOutfit fits

TryAnyOutfit puts an outfit from any photo or screenshot on your real photo, not an avatar. It also has a wardrobe with a week planner and an AI stylist that suggests outfits from your saved clothes. The app is free to download. Every virtual try-on, face swap or custom edit uses one credit.

There's no free trial. It's cheap to start, and current plans and credit packs are on the [pricing page](https://tryanyoutfit.com/#pricing). You can use it on iPhone and Android or in a web Studio, and credits are shared across all of them. Uploaded photos are auto-deleted after 72 hours unless you save them.

*TryAnyOutfit's closet and week planner. Putting a look on your photo is the step that uses credits.*

It previews a look. It doesn't measure fit or choose a size, so keep the store's size chart open. If you want to try it in a browser first, start with the [web studio](/tryon). If you'd rather have a closet stylist than a closet, we compared those in [best AI stylist apps](/blog/best-ai-stylist-apps).
