Short answer: If you like Indyx but want AI to suggest outfits, try Alta Daily or Acloset. Whering covers the social side, with friends' closets and style submissions, and Stylebook is the pick if you'd rather pay once than subscribe. If you came for Indyx's human stylists, nothing on this list replaces them.

Indyx is a good closet app. So why leave? Usually it's one missing feature, and we think you should name it before you switch.

We make TryAnyOutfit, a try-on app with a wardrobe and planner, so we're one of the options below. Weigh our take with that in mind. We've already compared [Indyx vs Whering](/blog/indyx-vs-whering) and [Indyx vs Stylebook](/blog/indyx-vs-stylebook) head to head. This post is sorted by the reason you're leaving.

*Same closet, different app. Pick by what you'd miss.*

## What Indyx does well, and where it stops

Indyx's App Store listing calls it a free digital wardrobe and styling app. The free plan on myindyx.com is generous. Items and outfits are unlimited, and you can sort by wears or cost-per-wear for free. You can add pieces by forwarding receipts or pasting product links, and background removal and auto-tagging are built in.

The paid Insider tier is where analytics, styling by friends and virtual selfies live. It's $12.99 a month or $74.99 a year on the US App Store. Indyx also sells human styling: a Lookbook of ten outfits from your closet starts at $150, and a Mini Lookbook of three starts at $60.

The listing also says "No random outfits styled by robots." That's a deliberate choice, and it's the most common reason to look elsewhere.

| App | Best replacement for | Platforms | Price (US App Store) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Alta Daily | AI outfit ideas, cost-per-wear | iPhone, Android, web | Free, no in-app purchases listed |
| Acloset | AI chat stylist, wear tracking | iPhone, Android | Free up to 100 items; Basic $3.99/month |
| Whering | Friends' closets, free stats | iPhone, Android | Free; Outfit Maker $4.99 |
| Stylebook | Pay once, cost-per-wear stats | iPhone, iPad, Mac | $4.99 one-time |
| Cladwell | Outfits with a reason, See it on me | iPhone, Android | Closet free; outfits need a subscription |
| Fits | Unlimited free wardrobe, outfit maker | iPhone, Android | Free; Fits Pro from $9.99 |
| TryAnyOutfit | Seeing a new piece on you | iPhone, Android, web | See [pricing](/#pricing) |

*Match the feature you'd miss to the app that does it.*

## 1. Alta Daily: if you want AI to pick for you

Alta Daily is the closest match to Indyx's catalog, plus the AI that Indyx avoids. You can add clothes by forwarding email receipts, picking from Alta's database or taking a photo, and AI removes backgrounds and fills in details. It tracks your most and least worn pieces and your cost-per-wear, like Indyx does.

Here's the difference. Alta builds outfits for you, around the weather or an event you type in. It also generates the outfit on an avatar that looks like you, and makes packing lists for trips. It holds 4.89 stars from 17,520 ratings on the US App Store, and the listing shows no in-app purchases.

## 2. Acloset: if you'd rather ask than browse

Acloset puts a chat stylist on top of your closet. You can ask "what should I wear today?" or "does this match?", and it sends daily suggestions based on the weather and your schedule. The outfit calendar tracks wears, cost-per-wear and your most-loved items. That covers most of what Indyx Insider's analytics do.

Every feature is free for up to 100 items. Past that, Basic is $3.99 a month on the US App Store, and pricier tiers sit above it. It's rated 4.46 from 5,475 ratings. If the 100-item cap worries you, read our [Acloset alternatives](/blog/acloset-alternatives) first.

## 3. Whering: if the social side is what you use

Indyx lets friends style you, but only on Insider. Whering makes the social part free. You can browse friends' closets, add their items to yours, and swap outfits through style submissions. Its stats include cost-per-wear and wear rate, and you can add clothes from a database of over 100 million items or straight from retailer sites.

Whering is free on iPhone and Android, rated 4.67 from 12,005 ratings in the US. Extras like the Outfit Maker ($4.99) are in-app purchases. We compare the two in [Indyx vs Whering](/blog/indyx-vs-whering), and list more options in [apps like Whering](/blog/apps-like-whering).

*Any of these apps is only as good as the photos you put in.*

## 4. Stylebook: if you're done with subscriptions

Stylebook costs $4.99 once on the US App Store, with no in-app purchases listed. You get style stats and automatic cost-per-wear. There's an outfit calendar too. That's the stats side of Indyx Insider for less than half of one month's membership, which we think is the best deal on this list.

The catch is that it's Apple-only, and the last update was in June 2025. Still, it has 4.68 stars from 8,866 ratings. [Indyx vs Stylebook](/blog/indyx-vs-stylebook) covers the full comparison, and [Stylebook alternatives](/blog/stylebook-alternatives) helps if you're on Android.

## 5. Cladwell: if you want outfits with an explanation

Cladwell builds outfits from your pieces and adds a short stylist's note on why each one works. Its "See it on me" feature puts an outfit from your closet onto a photo of you, and it builds a seasonal capsule of about 33 pieces, mostly ones you already own.

Building your closet is free. Nearly everything else needs a subscription, with annual plans listed at $59.99 and $79.99. Rated 4.25 from 1,036 ratings.

## 6. Fits: if you want a free closet with no item limit

Fits is a swipe-style outfit maker. One App Store reviewer picked it because it was the only app they found with an unlimited free wardrobe. It runs on iPhone and Android and has an AI stylist and virtual try-on. Paid extras come as Fits Pro or AI credit packs. It's rated 4.59 from 5,692 ratings. We compare it with our app in [TryAnyOutfit vs Fits](/compare/tryanyoutfit-vs-fits).

## 7. TryAnyOutfit: if you want to see new pieces on you first

TryAnyOutfit isn't a closet catalog first. It's a try-on app. You add a photo of yourself and a product image or [store screenshot](/blog/try-on-clothes-from-store-screenshot), and see the look on you before you buy. Looks you like go into a digital wardrobe and a calendar planner. The AI stylist suggests outfits from your saved clothes when you tell it where you're going.

It works alongside Indyx as well as instead of it. Indyx's virtual selfies are an Insider feature; here, the try-on is the main thing. Use it on your phone or in the browser at [tryanyoutfit.com/tryon](/tryon). A preview shows the look. It doesn't measure fit or choose your size. For costs, see [pricing](/#pricing).

*Plan outfits ahead, then try new pieces on your own photo.*

## How to pick

Start with the feature you'd miss. For AI outfit ideas, use Alta Daily or Acloset. For free social styling, Whering. For a one-time purchase and stats, Stylebook. If you mainly want to see clothes on yourself before you buy, use TryAnyOutfit or Alta's avatar.

If the human stylists were the point, stay with Indyx. None of the other listings here mention a person who styles your own closet. For a wider look at the category, see [best wardrobe apps](/blog/best-wardrobe-apps) and [best AI wardrobe apps](/blog/best-ai-wardrobe-apps).
